不登校児の親の会では、経験知が何よりも重視されている。参加者は各人の経験談から不登校に付随する様々な困難への対処法を読み取り、それを参考に今後の指針を模索していた。他方で親の会では不登校に関する専門的な知識も使用されていた。ただし、その内容や活用方法は、各会の性格や会への参加時期によって異なる。これらの違いは、現代社会の心理主義化と、不登校経験者を対象とした進路が整備されるマクロな状況変化を反映していた。
