项目摘要

現代中央アジア諸国における歴史叙述の趨勢は、ソ連時代初期に創出された民族共和国の枠組みを過去にまで遡らせるナショナル・ヒストリー(共和国史、民族史)の構築にある。こうした動向に対し、本研究は、天山山脈周辺を遊牧するクルグズ(キルギス)の首領層の動向を手掛かりとして、ロシア帝国、中央ユーラシア遊牧世界そしてイスラーム世界の三つが切り結ぶ場として再構築することで、ナショナル・ヒストリーの枠組みを相対化することを目的とする。こうした観点に立ち、平成24年度は以下の三点を明らかにした。第一に、クルグズとロシア帝国との関係について、クルグズの首領層の動向を軸に明らかにした。この中でロシア帝国はクルグズ遊牧社会が発揮する機動力を削ぐのではなく、むしろ軍事膨張の過程でそれを活用した。そして、ロシア帝国の直轄統治の下で、クルグズの伝統的首領層は温存され、統治の仲介者として活用されていたことを明らかにした。第二に、ロシア統治下におけるクルグズ首領層の権威を中央ユーラシアの遊牧世界の伝統との関係において考察した。この中で、クルグズの首領が首領たりえる条件は「勇敢さ」を備えていることであり、それは家畜の略奪や襲撃の遂行によって支えられていた。彼らの権威は勇敢であることという個人的な資質に依拠したものであり、そのような資質を示す指標として、中央ユーラシア遊牧世界に古くから存在する遊牧的英雄の称号「勇者/バートゥル」が用いられていたことを明らかにした。しかし、ロシア統治の下で「勇者」つまり軍事指導者としての活動が実質上不可能となる中、首領層は19世紀末以降、イスラーム(例えば聖地巡礼)に新たな権威付けの根拠を求めるようになった。この中で彼らがイスラーム世界とクルグズ社会とを結びつける媒介者となることで、クルグズ社会における首領としての新たな意味を獲得しようとしていたことを明らかにした。
