Small-scale building of learner corpora for analyses of L1-influenced errors made by Japanese university students

本研究旨在提高日本大学生早期发展阶段的英语写作能力。指出明显不同类型的错误背后的主要共同因素一直是这个项目的实际目标。我们通过lms和blog的学习活动来收集写作数据。建立了一种不需要it专家的帮助也能实现的自制学习语料库的构建方法。我们的数据显示了广泛的l1影响的错误，其中包括主语和主题的混淆，不适当地遗漏已知信息，以及论点结构的混淆。当学习者在用英语写作时遇到困难时，他们的母语往往是他们唯一可以依赖的语法。由于母语与目的语之间的语言距离很大，这就导致了各种类型的错误。结果表明，教师方面的对比语言知识有助于学习者的进步。

Our study aims at improving English writing ability of Japanese university students at their earlier developmental stages. Pointing out major common factors behind the apparently varied types of errors has been the practical goal of this project.We collected writing data through learning activities using LMSs and blogs. A practicable way to build house-made learner corpora, which is feasible without the help of IT-specialists, was established. Our data showed extensive L1-influenced errors, among which are confusion of subject and topic, inappropriate omission of known information, and confusion of argument structures.When learners face difficulties trying to write in English, it appears, their L1 often provides the only grammar they can rely on. As the linguistic distance between the L1 and the target language is significant, this leads to various types of errors. The results obtained indicate that contrastive linguistic knowledge on the teacher's side will help learners' progress.
