本研究は、単語の共起的な振る舞いが日英語間で異なる（例えば、日本語で「勉強をする」は英語では“study”1語で表せるが、日本語では同じような振舞いをする「写真を撮る」は英語では“take a picture”である）ことによる、学習への影響を調査することを主な目的としている。2022年度は5年間の研究機関の初年度にあたるため、本研究がより包括的な内容となるために、英語学習項目優先度設定のための基礎資料として、大学生英語学習者21名が参加しての語彙、派生語に関する調査を、単語テスト、派生語のテスト、熟達度テスト（TOEFL ITP）、アンケートの4種類の内容で行った。その結果、テストで測定する語彙量が同様であった場合でも、派生語に関する知識には差があり、その原因として言語インプットの量や学習法があることが分かった。具体的には、派生語について意識をして学習をせず、さらに言語インプットが少ない場合には、語彙量に応じた派生語の知識が獲得できていない状況が判明した。また、派生語の知識は熟達度へも大きな影響があることが分かり、英語学習における重要な位置を占めていることが分かった。本研究では、（前述の通り）日英語間での言語の共起関係の違いの差の学習困難度への影響を調査しているが、日英語間で単語の派生の仕組みにも差があるため、2022年度に得た結果を踏まえて、派生語についても学習困難度を設定できないか、追加で検討することとしたい。なお、2022年度に得た研究成果については、既に論文にまとめ、現在国際学術雑誌に投稿中である。
