2022年度は、合併と範囲の経済に関する実証のためのデータベース作成を行ったほか、地方政府の合併と選好の異質性に関する論文を改訂中である。第1に、範囲の経済の測定のためには、合併に伴い地方政府の権能がどのように変化したのかを正確に捕捉する必要がある。そのため、それぞれの合併のケース別に、村から町、町から市、通常の市から特別市などへの変更、およびどのような組み合わせ（例えば町と町の合併で市となるなど）で権能の変化が生じているのかなど、合併と権能の変化に関する詳細なデータベースを作成した。一方で、合併による規模の経済と範囲の経済の効果を識別するためには、合併を伴わない権能の変化、例えば人口増による市への昇格などに関するデータも必要となるため、関連するデータの収集を行った。第2に、分析に必要な財政、人口、経済、地理に関する変数の収集を行った。特に、合併によって市町村の境界が変更になることから、合併前における新市町村単位での変数の作成、および合併後における合併前の市町村単位でのデータの収集も行い、合併による規模の経済と範囲の経済を識別できる変数の作成を行った。第3に、地方政府の合併に関する理論研究を国際査読雑誌に投稿し、現在改訂中である。地方財政における分権化定理によると、地域間の公共財選好における異質性が大きい時には、公共財供給は分権化された地方政府によって行われるのが望ましい。しかし、私の研究では、選好の異質性が大きくなったとき、集権化された政府によって公共財が供給された方が社会的厚生が大きくなるケースが存在することが示された。公共財のスピルオーバーが大きく、地域間の選好の異質性が小さい時には、元々選好が高い地域の選好が高まると集権化された政府のもとで社会的厚生が高くなるケースがあることがわかった。
