This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. Transcript levels for various enzymes and proteins involved in murine glycoprotein biosynthesis, catabolism, and recognition (lectins) are being quantitated by qRT-PCR. The focus of the Harn laboratory is on immunomodulatory carbohydrates, specifically in their ability to induce Th2-type T cell responses, activate macrophages, and dendritic cells and to also drive immune suppression. Mouse immune cell populations are being profiled for glycan-related gene expression by qRT-PCR and the results will be compared between cell populations induced by various approaches to determine the repertoire of glycosyltransferases and lectins that are present in different cell populations and how their expression levels are altered following immunomodulatory stimuli.
