This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
This project compares behavioral and neural processes critical for social communication in autistic compared to typically developing children using eye tracking and ERP techniques. We have compared this performance to that of monkeys who have received selective brain lesions both as young individuals and as adults. Our goal is to further understand the neural mechanisms involved in social communication and how these may become impaired in developmental disorders.
During this last year we have completed the collection of behavioral and electrophysiological data on all human participants and on the monkeys.
