CLINICAL TRIAL: EFFECTS OF SUPRAPHYSIOLOGICAL RHGH ON BONE METABOLISM IN ANOREXI

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is associated with a low bone mineral density (BMD). Studies suggest a nutritionally acquired resistance to GH, a bone anabolic factor, in AN. We hypothesize that supraphysiological rhGH in patients with AN will overcome the GH resistance, and cause subsequent beneficial effects on bone formation. 22 subjects will be single blinded, randomized & placebo controlled, while evaluating the effects of rhGH over 3 months. Bone turnover markers, body composition & BMD will be evaluated in this study.
