SUBCLINICAL ATHEROSCLEROSIS IN HIV INFECTED MEN

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. We propose to investigate the prevalence of subclinical coronary atherosclerosis in young HIV-infected patients without previously known cardiovascular disease. We also propose to study the potential metabolic, inflammatory, and genetic factors that may be associated with atherosclerosis in HIV-infected patients. The study design is an observational cross-sectional cohort study to examine the prevalence of early atherosclerotic coronary artery disease using MSCT in 100 HIV infected men as compared to 50 normal healthy control men.
