We request a new phosphorimager. This piece of equipment will functionally substitute for an existing Typhoon 9410 phosporimager that is both nearing the end of its operational life and is heavily used by diverse constituencies at Simon Fraser University. The new phosphorimager will enable the routine nucleic acid radioactive imaging procedures that are essential to both the Sen and Unrau laboratories. Both laboratories make extensive use of 32P radiolabel to study nucleic acids structure and function, and both groups critically depend on their access to the aging Typhoon phosphorimager. Last year our laboratories were the primary users of the 32P isotope at Simon Fraser University, purchasing 50.2% of all source vials and utilizing 60.6% of all activity (3644 MBq). The equipment we request is essential to ensure the ongoing timeliness and vitality of the research carried out by our two laboratories.
