Pr Sawan and his team at Polytechnique Montreal are proposing a new platform consisting of a low-cost, high-density and large microelectrode array (MEA), a microelectronic readout and control system, and a user-friendly software interface. The proposed microelectrode fabrication process is a versatile technology that can be employed to develop high-density microelectrode arrays, where customers can select the insulation layer material (e.g. glass, polymer), the type of electrodes (e.g. silicon, gold, carbon nanotubes), the dimensions of the electrodes as well as the space separating them from each other.
