PM2.5 is the mass of particulate matter with a diameter less than 2.5 µm; it is a global challenge and has been identified as a threat to public health and the environment. Canada's federal, provincial and territorial government (except for Quebec) have agreed to ratify the Canada-wide standard for particulate matter (PM) and ozone. PM2.5 level in a region is now being monitored in a few monitoring stations. There is a need for portable and real time PM2.5 monitoring devices. This is a blank area in manufacturing industry in Canada.
