The proposed research will develop polymer-based materials to create a standardized, life-sized liver phantom that is compatible to various medical imaging modalities. the long-term objective of this proposed research is to develop a human tissue-mimicking phantom that can accurately calibrate the multimodal medical imaging devices such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Computed Tomography (CT). This will serve as a crucial strategic research tool to accurately portray or anticipate response characteristics of real tissue under imaging process. It will also assist the development of a standard for the image acquisition strategies to compare and overlay the images obtained from each modality to detect small lesions. It can also be used for precise and effective pre-treatment or surgical procedures planning for radiation therapy to promote accurate diagnosis for cancer research. The optimization of imaging protocols would be based on robust experimental data rather than current standards based on rationalization of established clinical practice. This is in direct
