At present, InspecTech Inc. uses conventional gas sensors within their gas monitoring systems. Specifically, the gas monitoring system that aims to detect Carbon monoxide has recently reporting false alarms in the presence of other non-Carbone monoxide gases which have been problematic to many of the company's customers. Carbon monoxide is a highly toxic, flammable, colorless and odorless gas. This proposed research project aims to investigate the potential of using advanced signal processing techniques to uniquely identify the features associated with the Carbone monoxide to improve the sensitivity of the Carbone monoxide sensor produced by InspectTech Inc. and hence eliminating the false alarms of such conventional sensors. The outcome of this research project is of high importance to Canada as it will improve the sensitivity of existing gas sensors technologies which will not only enhance the safety of the this sector but will also benefit the Canadian home owners and the Canadian industry personnel through improving the detection of highly toxic gases.
