JANA is a leading provider of consultancy and software solutions for gas transmission and distributionpipelines. JANA's key areas of expertise include pipeline integrity management, asset management and valuechain risk assessment. JANA is at the forefront of research in pipeline integrity management with theirstate-of-the-art quantitative probabilistic and mechanistic-probabilistic risk models. JANA's corporate headoffice is located in Aurora, Ontario.Gas transmission and distribution pipelines consist of many parts, all of which have to be inspected fromtime-to-time in order to ensure safe and reliable operation and prevent accidents. Each of these parts, or assets,is subject to specific inspection and maintenance programs. While the risk assessment is taking place atindividual asset level, different assets have different specifications, individual inspection and maintenanceprograms.The inspections listed above may have some interaction with one another. Currently, there is no commonrisk-based inspection framework for different subsystems and inspection programs, which makes it difficult toenact an optimal inspection policy with minimal costs. The proposed research would look at the asset-levelinspection methods and determine if a common platform could be developed across the spectrum of pipelinesystems. The goal is to construct a risk-based framework for inspection optimization of different assets in orderto provide a common inspection optimization platform for different assets and/or inspection programs. Thiswould greatly facilitate the analysis, reduce time and costs, thus resulting in savings to the clients and improvedreliability of the pipelines.
