Contributions to the Optimization of the Integration of Renewable Energy into Microgrids

SG2B and Nergica have recently collaborated together thanks to an Engage grant, which has allowed the consolidation of a database containing extensive costs information on renewable energy technology and projects deployed on northern isolated communities, the identification of economic dispatch strategies for fossil-fuel-based electric systems, the definition of diesel generators optimal operating conditions and the evaluation of the pertinence of heating oil substitution using biomass. The present project will allow going further with this effort. In fact, SG2B wants to increase the reliability of its energy planning tool called NIMBEE, by establishing a validation framework and by performing internal and external validation tests. The expected results include a more robust and reliable tool, useful for community energy planning, for technology and solution comparison and for the energy transition to cleaner and more responsible energy use.
