项目摘要

Biomass is becoming the future of chemical industries. Bio-based products are redefining industrial and consumer products by integrating renewable, biological raw materials to innovate a wide range of products including bio-plastics, surfactants, bio-lubricants, cosmetics, enzymes and pharmaceuticals produced from non-food biomass and crops as well as waste streams. Based on strong community direction that recognizes Sarnia-Lambton's natural fit for ongoing developments in the fields of industrial biotechnology and bioprocessing, the "Sarnia-Lambton Bio-Hybrid and Chemistry Cluster" was established in 2004 to merge and build on the strengths of the hydrocarbon-based and bio-based economies. Lambton College established the Bio-industrial Process Research Centre (BPRC) to fill the research and development need derived from the Sarnia-Lambton Bio-Hybrid and Chemistry Cluster. Currently, Lambton College is under the construction of the Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory, as part of its BPRC facilities. Following the Canadian Biosafety Standard (2015) as a harmonized national standard for the handling or storing of human and terrestrial animal pathogens and toxins in Canada, the Biosafety Level 2 laboratory will need shaker incubator and a microbial safety cabinet dedicated to that facility exclusively. As well, a qPCR and portable CO2 & O2 analyzer for the analytical laboratory aiming to fill our analytical gaps.
