Holland College's Bioscience Technology (BT) program actively pursues opportunities to collaborate with industry partners within Atlantic Canada on research and training projects ranging from analytical techniques and extraction to microbiology, genetics, biochemistry and cell culture. The BT program has an extensive history of collaborating on applied research and development projects, providing value, insight and results to industry while exposing highly qualified students to hands-on, industry challenges. The BT program has identified, through their program advisory committee made up of key industry and government people, that an enhanced cell culture component is needed to support growth in the bioscience sector in PEI. Holland College is requesting a BioTek Cytation 5 Cell Imaging Multi-Mode Reader to greatly enhance the capacity to conduct more applied research projects and industry training. Several companies within the PEI Bioscience sector are investing heavily in biologics and this equipment will support their expansion efforts, both in terms of applied research collaborations and in technology availability and demonstrations. With NSERC support, acquiring this equipment is the necessary next step in advancing the cell culture capabilities, further demonstrating Holland College's commitment to be a leader in bioscience in PEI.
