Holland College's Wind Turbine Technology (WTT) program has been actively involved in engaging industryto help develop and test innovative technologies, train highly qualified personnel and provide real life projectsfor students. Prince Edward Island has recently made an ambitious commitment to reach net zero energy by2030 and to do so, will require companies like Dynamic Controls (DC) to help modernize older existingtechnologies to ensure that clean energy investments continue to perform effectively and efficiently. DynamicControls core business for 25 years has been on the retrofit of old gas turbine control systems, upgrades of gasturbines, generator excitation systems and industrial automation using advanced controls systems and SCADAmonitoring. DC recognizes that the future of energy generation will be clean and renewable and thus thebusiness decision to move into wind turbine control systems. The Entegrity Wind (EW15-50) turbine systemdoes not have communication and network capabilities and requires any technical diagnosis to be completed atthe base of the turbine. This collaborative project between DC and Holland College will focus on thedevelopment of a new programmable logic controller, that will have networking capabilities so that errors canbe diagnosed and corrected remotely, minimizing down time of the systems and maximizing energy generation.This new controller system will be developed and tested in real time, using one of Holland College's EWsystems.
