Development of hydrophobic treatments for adhesive tapes

New water-based, PFC free chemicals are available as a replacement for conventional PFC and/or solvent-based release coating. The project has for objectives the development of a water-repellent release coating for self-wound tapes for multiples applications such as medical, kinesiology, label print, and gaffer tape. A coating is applied on the textile to improve the surface properties of the tapes, which include touch, visual, durability, release and water resistance. A coating containing at least 4 components - a polymer, a crosslinker, a rheology modifier, and other additives will be developed to enhance the surface properties of the tape, with a special attention to the hydrophobic properties. Enhancing the water repellency durability will allow Scapa to stand out from the competition with a durable product.
