Study on Research at Universities-Pst, Present, and Future-

在本研究中，我们主要研究日本大学制度的功能，因为我们认为这对未来大学制度的设计是必要的。我们发现，在大众化的今天，人们对大学的教育和服务功能有着强烈的关注，但大学的研究功能也受到了威胁。研究功能的退化和人们对理工科学习的不热情是未来日本面临的严重问题。研究了高校科研职能的历史，分析了高校科研环境的现状，展望了未来的学术研究结构。大学应该是学术研究的中心，研究生培养的作用非常重要。我们也看到一些加强大学研究的新政策已经开始实施。

In this study, we mainly focused on research function of university system in Japan because we felt it necessary for designing future university system. We found people's strong concern about educational and service function of universities at today's stage of massification but we also found research function of universities was at risk. Deterioration of research function and people's unpopularity of studying science and engineering are serious for future Japan.We thus studied about the history of research function at universities, analyzed the current situation of research environment there and viewed future structure of academic research. Universities should be the center of academic research and the role of graduate training is very important. We also see some new policies for enhancing research at universities have started.
