项目摘要

近年大規模コーパスが比較的容易に利用可能になってきており、それに伴ってコーパスとして意味のあるものの規模が膨大なものとなってきているため、研究者個人がコーパスを構築することの意義が皮肉にも失われつつあり、これは近年の急速なコンピュータ環境、インターネット環境の変化を考えればこの先ますます明らかになってくることと思われる。このため、平成9年度の後半からは新聞記事等から作成した全文データベースに基づくデータの抽出を理論的考察のためのものと位置づけ直し、主に広い意味での主観性に関わる事象についての理論的考察を研究の中心とした。具体的な実績としては、「実績報告書」の「11:研究発表」の項にあげたものの順にふれていくと、まず主観性が関わる事象として最も論じられることの多いモダリティについて、日本語のモダリティ現象と英語のモダリティ現象に基づいてあるベき「モダリティ」概念の検討を行った。さらに、英語のような西洋言語とはタイプの異なる言語である日本語について認知的アブローチがどの様に有効であるかを論じた。ついでモダリティ概念を認識領域に関わる現象一般の中に統合して扱うことを提唱しているR.W.Langackerのdynamievolutionarymodelが通常そのモデルが適用する現象とは思われていない現象にも適用できる可能性を日本語の受け身や英語の自動詞派生の結果構文を例に引いて論じた。また、主観性現象として論じられることのある日本語の受け身については、迷惑受け身に見られる他動性拡張現象に対する分析を提示し、東アジアの言語に多いと言われる迷惑受け身の構文が実は一様なものではない可能性について論じた。本来の主眼であったデータベースに基づくコーパス研究に理論的基盤を与えうると思われるusage-based modelについては、上記3で発表した研究において、それがどの様に動的な側面をその本質とする言語現象の一般的なモデルとなりうるのかを論じるとともに、いまだ正確に知られることのないusage-based modelを詳述したR.W.Langackerの"A dynamic usage-based model“を翻訳し、より広い分野の研究者の便宜を図うことも行った。
