1.古文献資料に関しては,『和名抄』の声点付き語彙と『日本国語大辞典』のアクセント史の部分をすべて入力し,データベースを作成した。膨大な量がある『名義抄』についてもその3分の2を入力した。2.これらの語彙につき,香川県伊吹島方言の生え抜きの話者に当たり,それが使われている限り,そのアクセントを調査した。調査はすべて録音し,音声資料として保存してある。3.伊吹島方言のデータはまだ入力していないが,現段階では次のことが明らかになっている。(1)2モーラ語については,平安末期のアクセント資料に見られる型の区別を非常によく保っている。(2)3モーラ語については,いわゆる第5類だけが合流を起こしているが,それ以外では,やはりよく区別を保っている。(3)複合名詞のアクセントは,後部要素Yが3モーラ語の場合,Yの第2モーラに核がくるのが原則である。(式のことは別にすれば)-○○'○というパターンである。これは今日まで知られている限り,現代諸方言では伊吹島だけに見られるもので,しかもこのパターンは平安末期の複合語アクセント規則のそれと一致する。(4)以上のうち,(1)だけは先人の研究により知られていた点であるが、それ以外は私の調査によって明らかになったものである。特に,(3)の発見のもつ意味は大きい。これらのことから,伊吹島方言のアクセントは,古文献に出ていない単語のアクセントに対しても発言力をもつものであることがはっきりした。(5)今後,伊吹島方言のデータの入力を行ないながら今後さらに比較研究を進め,日本語アクセント史の解明へと向かいたい。
