I.基礎史料の収集1.江戸幕府の人事政策に関する古文書を調査(1)享保改革期の人事政策について調査するため、各資料所蔵機関を訪れ、主として荻生徂徠、雨森芳洲の政策意見について調べた。(2)国立公文書館の旧幕臣人事史料の調査を行ない、当時の文武優秀者以外の幕臣の「出世」の状況についてデータ収集を行なった。2.諸藩の人材登用・人事政策に関する論文資料を収集した。II.収集データの分析1.「I」の史料は、新たに作成したデータベースに入力して、整理と分析行った。幕臣の「出世」を示す指標としては江戸城中の座順という順序をとり入れた。この作業には勤務先同僚の他、特に麗沢大学助教授・浦田広朗氏の御指導を得た。2.分析の結果として、(1)職階の上昇がみられる者とみられない者の顕著な差の存在(2)上昇がみられる者の文武修行歴のパターン、について一定の示唆を得た。
