本研究では、理数科目等における形式的な操作手順を概念的に理解するための支援方法を検討した。その結果、手順の意味や意義を深く理解するには、与えられた課題に対して、1.各学習者が自分なりの解や解法手順を構築し、2.それらを互いに公開共有した上で、自分のものと「どのような関係にあるか」を言語化して、3.個々の解・解法をより抽象的な次元で統合する、という3つのステップが必要であることが明らかになった。以下では、この3ステップに対応付けて本年度の研究概要を紹介する。「折り紙の2/3の3/4を示す」という課題を大学生に行った実験研究と6人の小学生に行った実践研究とから、課題に対する様々な解や解法が協調場面に外化・共有されていても、それを利用・統合するには、自分なりの解法に基づく問題意識が必要であることが分かった。この結果は、協調学習が様々な解を集めるだけでは成立せず、各学習者に上記3ステップが揃って保証されていることが重要であることを示している。同時に、互いの問題意識は共有できずとも、それに基づく解や言語化は互いにとっての貴重な外的認知資源として働くことも詳細な相互作用分析から明らかになった。次に、本学での何森仁氏の数学授業の経年比較から、理解深化に対する言語化の有効性を実証した。氏の授業は、確率理解のためにサイコロを多数回振らせるなど、抽象的な概念獲得における具体的体験を重視するものである。その授業が平成14年度以降の3年間で、教師による解説から学生自身のまとめを重視する方向へと変わったため、授業直後のまとめや期末試験での成績を比較した。その結果、学生自身が実体験をまとめて言語化しておくことによって、抽象的な理解が長期間保持されることが分かった。理解の定着率から見れば、カバーするトピック数や授業時間を犠牲にしてでも、上記ステップ2,3を学習者に行わせる必要が示唆されていよう。しかし、初学者の努力だけで常に抽象的な理解が達成できるとは限らない。そこで教師のレクチャを有効に利用する方法を検討した。レクチャとは、教師自身が上記3ステップを一人で行い、その結果を一方的に伝達するものとも考えられる。それを学習者が有効に利用するには、予めレクチャに関する知識を入手して問題意識を形成し、講義を聴きながら、あるいは講義後にビデオを見直すなどして、教師の話の展開と自分の考えを対比させ、その結果を掲示板システムなどで公開共有して各自の問題への適用を考えることなどが有効であることが明らかになりつつある。
