ガラビオース配列(Galα1-4Gal)は、哺乳類では糖脂質上に存在し尿路感染性大腸菌や志賀毒素が細胞に付着する際の標的分子となる。一方、ハトなどの鳥類ではガラビオース配列は糖タンパク質上に存在する。本研究では、糖タンパク質上のガラビオース配列を生成する新規のハト由来α1, 4-ガラクトース転移酵素遺伝子を同定した。類似の配列を持つ酵素はヒトやニワトリにも存在するが、ハト由来の酵素は基質特異性が異なることを明らかにした。
