真核生物において、タンパク質をコードする遺伝子の転写はRNAポリメラーゼIIが行うが、開始時には基本転写因子と呼ばれる少なくとも5種類のタンパク質の助けが必要となる。本研究では、ヒト由来の基本転写因子TFIIEとTFIIHに対して、これまで不明であった両者の相互作用ドメインを同定した。さらに、遊離状態と会合状態の両方の立体構造を核磁気共鳴(NMR)装置で決定し、認識機構を明らかにした。
