発生途上にあるヒト根未完成歯の根尖部歯髄組織より初代細胞培養を行ったところ活発に増殖する細胞集団が得られた。この細胞集団は生体外にて硬組織形成細胞、脂肪細胞、軟骨細胞、神経細胞に分化できる多分化能を持つことが判明した。また、この細胞集団は動物の体内にて骨組織、象牙質組織を形成できるという結果も得られた。これらの結果よりヒト根未完成歯の根尖部歯髄組織は再生医療における貴重な細胞供給源と成りうることが判明した。
