The Japanese Law in British Malaya and the Dutch East Indies: A Comparative Study

本研究是对二战前英属马来亚和荷属东印度群岛日本人的法律的地位进行比较研究。两个殖民地都居住着不同的种族，具有不同的法律的地位。每一种法律的地位都有自己的权利和义务，有些人口群体可以行使某些权利，有些则不能。这就意味着，不同的种族、人口群体和民族有不同的权利和义务。换句话说，不同的法律的地位的特点是殖民统治的方式和方式。本研究以荷兰和英国的国家档案馆为主要研究对象，通过比较日本人在两个殖民地的法律的地位，揭示两个殖民地不同的殖民统治方式。在学术会议上就这项研究作了几次介绍。此外，还发表了两篇与这一主题有关的论文。

This research is a comparative study of legal status of the Japanese both in British Malaya and the Dutch East Indies before the second world war. There were different races inhabited in both colonies with different legal status. Each legal status had its own rights and duties, some population group could exercise certain rights but some could not. This meant that there were different rights and duties corresponding to the difference of race, population group and nationality. In other words, different legal status is characterized by the style and manner of colonial rule. By comparing the legal status of the Japanese in both colonies, this research aims to uncover the different style of colonial rule in both colonies.The research activity has been done mainly at national archives both in the Netherlands and Britain. Several presentations were given on this research at academic meetings. Also, two papers were published in relation to this subject.
