INSTALLATION, COMMISSIONING AND TESTING OF LARGE-AREA DETECTORS FOR MACROMOLECUL

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. As one of the most important continuing projects in macromolecular crystallography, the large-area detectors on the beam lines are continuously tested and optimized to the beam line performance. This year, new MAR325 CCD detector was installed and tested on BL9-2, and extensive tests, including the measurement and analysis of data sets, were performed on this detector and on the existing Quantum-315 CCD detector to compare their performance. Superb Mb data sets were collected and the MAR325 out performed the Quantum-315 CCD detector. The MAR325 detector has accordingly been permanently installed on BL9-2. The Quantum-315 CCD detector was thereafter installed and tested on BL1-5 replacing a smaller and older Quantum-4 detector, thereby providing a significant enhancement to the data acquisition capabilities for this beam
