This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This trial is the first stage of a series of studies testing a remote alcohol sensing system. Data from the protoype continuous alcohol monitoring device will be correlated with standard measures of ingested alcohol, breath and blood samples. Participants will be gradually dosed with alcohol to a level of 0.1 g%, as determined by breath tests conducted during the trial. Alcohol levels as measures by breath, blood, and interstitial fluid will be documented at designated time points during and after the alcohol dosing procedure. These measures will subsequently be compared to determine the validity of the sensor over the range of blood alcohol concentrations and the reliability of the snesor across study participants. Further protocols will test the sensor in increasingly naturalistic venues.
