The objective of this application is to obtain a zebrafish housing system and ultrafreezer for short-term and long-term maintenance of zebrafish, and storage of their tissues for molecular research. The zebrafish housing system will consist of racks that can accommodate different size tanks for growing embryos, juveniles and for breeding adults. This set-up will have a small footprint but can hold several tanks for exposure studies pertaining to elucidation of glucocorticoid receptor signaling pathways involved in stress adaptation. The ultrafreezer will be critical for the storage of tissue samples, including brain, gill, muscle, heart, liver, kidney, embryos and whole organism for gene and protein expression studies. This equipment is essential for my research program due to the added numbers of research personnel in my laboratory. The lack of a zebrafish housing system and ultrafreezer space to accommodate their demands is impacting my research program. The zebrafish housing system and ultrafreezer will be available to researchers at the University of Waterloo.
