英文摘要
Kent Homes is a home manufacturer dedicated to building well-crafted, energy-efficient homes and buildings.Utilizing building information modelling (BIM) technology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness ofbuilding design and production planning, Kent Homes confronts several challenges. The primary objective ofthe proposed research is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of BIM for building manufacturing and tominimize construction material waste by developing new BIM tools for specialist trades:AUTOMATING 3D MODELLING OF ELECTRICAL WIRING INTO BIM MODELS: This task willautomate the electrical wiring modelling within a 3D environment under the constraints of the CanadianElectrical Code. This wiring modelling add-on will provide input data for the wiring material wasteminimization add-on.AUTOMATING INFORMATION RETRIEVAL FROM BIM MODELS FOR CARPENTER TRADES: Theobjective here is to automate the information extraction process by developing a new BIM tool. This taskinvolves data identification, data mapping, and Revit add-on development. The purpose of the dataidentification is to identify the information needed by carpenter trades for moulding doors and windows.MINIMIZING MATERIAL WASTE FOR SPECIALIST TRADES: This task will explore avenues for materialwaste minimization based on BIM technology, focusing on the moulding material for carpenter trades andelectrical wiring material for electrical trades. An algorithm will be further integrated with the BIM model inorder to automate the generation of the optimized material cutting plan.Successful implementation of the proposed research will increase the competitiveness of Canadian builders inthe construction market. Modules can be built through a more efficient and cost-effective engineering methodthat can deliver market requirements for increased construction speed, green buildings, reduced material waste, improved quality, and rapid return on investment.
