Sheridan College's Screen Industries Research and Training Centre (SIRT) will work with Toronto-based partner company Marion Surgical to prototype a virtual production workflow with a focus on real-time compositing within Unreal Engine. Adopting game engines within production pipelines can reduce post production costs and increase creative freedom and efficiency. Real-time technology combined with large format displays and tracking systems can yield photoreal immersive virtual environments and therefore facilitate production within a studio environment when location shooting is restricted. SIRT aims to evaluate existing features of Unreal Engine, develop software solutions to real-time compositing compatible with nDisplay and establish production practices that can support Marion Surgical's target use case for content production.
