Hethitisches Wörterbuch, Lieferungen 22, 23 und 24

The "Hethitisches Wörterbuch" documents the forms and usage of words of the Hittite lexicon. The philological investigation of all references and of the secondary literature allows constantly a new presicion of the contexts and usage which exceed previous scholarship. Furthermore the current state of research of Hittitology is doucmented. In this sense the dictionary is a basic opus of ancient Near Eastern studies which makes the Hittite language and the vast corpus of Hittite texts accessible to specialists and non-specialists alike.Annelies Kammenhuber published in 1975-1998 her voluminous "Hethitisches Wörterbuch, zweite völlig neu bearbeitete Auflage auf der Grundlage der edierten hethitischen Texte", vol. I (1975-1984): A; vol. II (1988): E; vol. III/1-2 (1991-1994) ha- bis hant-. It was based on Johannes Friedrich, Hethitisches Wörterbuch (1952, 1957-66), which included the Hittite lexicon known in his days and the Sumerograms and Akkadograms used. The dictionary of Kammenhuber has become a thesaurus of the Hittite language in depth and coverage. Since 1998 the project is funded again by the DFG. It is planned ot reach the beginning of the Chicago Hittite Dictionary which started with letter L. This is goal is to be achieved also by the cooperation of a number of various Hittitologists outside of Munich, both in Germany and abroad. The editorial board of the Hethitisches Wörterbuch now includes (in alphabetic order) P. Cotticelli-Kurras, F. Giusfredi, A. Hagenbuchner-Dresel, J. Hazenbos, W. Sallaberger. In the fascicles which are now submitted for print the editors are J. Hazenbos (Lieferung 22, end of volume III/2: H), F. Giusfredi (Lieferung 23, beginning of volume 4: I), and A. Hagenbuchner-Dresel (Lieferung 24). Each fascicle lists a dozen further authors who have contributed to this project.
