Since 1970, biomaterials save and lengthen the life of millions of patients around the world. Although an enormous progress has been achieved, the reject reactions are still common, and when implanted, the clinical follow up of sone 10 to 40% of implants are still affected. The search for materials and strategies able to replace or to stimulate the healing and the regeneration of the diseased area is urgent. In this context, natural materials, i.e. those produced by nature, as polysaccharides and collagen, represent interesting strategies for regenerative and restorative medicine. A number of applications have already been explored, studied and reported in the scientific literature and patent trade offices as well. The research targeted here is a partnership project that aims to develop innovative plasma procedures to modify the surface of polysaccharide structures in order to improve their biological performances. A consolidated team centered around the Laboratory for Biomaterials and Bioengineering atLaval University, CRC-1, including two high-level industrial partners will allow the development of this research while providing training for high qualified personnel. Two postdoctoral fellows (24 months each), one PhD student, two master students and four undergraduate students, will be involved.#(cr)#(lf)Depuis 1970, les biomatériaux sauvent et rallongent la vie de millions de patients autour du monde.
