教育経営に関する著書・論文のうち、1984年から1993年までの10年間に刊行された学校経営及び教師教育に関する著書・論文を分析した結果、学術性と有用性の両面から教育経営研究の質的向上を図るためには、次のような課題を克服することが必要と言える。1)学校の生態の解明学校の経営現象を対象とする学校経営研究が成立するためには、対象とする経営現象を教育現象一般から区別しなければならない。その区別の前に、管理職員と個々の教職員の職務遂行活動の生態を、プライバシーの侵害にならない範囲において、日・週・月・学期の各時間や期間と、それらの累積としての年間にわたって観察し、記録する作業が不可欠である。2)地域の課題に対応する学校経営の探究地域の課題に学校教育を対応させるための学校経営の在り方を追求する研究の前提として、地域の課題解決をも指向した実践的な教育課程を編成したり展開する力量を、教員をはじめ、校長や教育委員会関係者が具有しているのかの検討、あるいは現行の教育内容基準による教科目構成・区分の抜本的検討なども課題に措定しなければならない。さらには、かかる教育関係職員の力量形成という点から、大学で行われている教員養成や教育経営研究の水準と在り方について検討することも必要である。3)研究対象としての「学校」種別の拡大児童生徒は特定の学校に終生とどまるわけではないので、学校経営研究の対象としての学校は、公立の義務制学校に限定されることなく、幼稚園から大学院までの国公立私立の学校、専門学校、専修学校、各種学校、文部省以外の省庁所管学校、塾や予備校などにまで拡大されねばならない。
