本年度は以下のようなポイントに絞り、研究を進めた。第一に、本研究の一つの柱である、フィールド・ワークの実施である。未だ深刻な差別問題を抱える"障害者問題"という特殊性もあって、プライバシーに配慮しながらの、慎重なフィールド・ワークを、本年もおこなった。特に今年は太白区の福祉施設・団体・NPOが参画している「太白地域生活・支援ネットワーク会議」と連携することができ、地域に密着するかたちで、障害のある人と、メディアを経由した社会参加の問題について、充実した調査結果を得ることができた。また、「太白地域生活支援ネットワーク会議」の協力を得、太白区内での福祉施設・団体・医療機関・NPOなどに対する悉皆アンケート調査を実施することができた。この調査では、福祉の支援側と障害当事者側のコンピュータ利用へのニーズ・ギャップや、双方の情報共有のニーズ、IT利用の支援が必要だとするニーズなど、これまで明らかにされていなかったさまざまな論点を明らかにすることができた。現在は以上をまとめて、学術論文として投稿する準備を進めている。第二に、本研究のもうひとつの柱である、文献研究を進めた。前述の通りフィールド・ワークが順調に進んだため、海外調査を限定し予定を入れ替え繰り上げるかたちで、文献を和洋問わず幅広く求め、調査した。これらの作業の目的は、現在取り組んでいる福祉におけるメディア問題を、より広いメディア研究の視点から概観するためである。一般にアクチュアルな問題に取り組む研究はともすると微細にこだわりがちであるが、文献研究により本研究の社会的な意味を明示することができた。また、それらの概観と社会的な位置づけを、裏面の共同研究内の論文としてまとめることができた。最後に、本研究が、現代社会に対してどのように成果を還元する必要があるかについて考え、実行しようとしているのかについて述べたい。本研究がテーマとしている"障害とメディア"は、なにも社会における特定領域の問題ではない。コンピュータ・メディアが実際に社会参加のメディアとして機能するのであれば、その普及を促進し、その様態を詳細に記述することは、障害当事者の利益となるだけではなく、社会的な利益にも、そして「メディアの社会的な意義」を明らかにするという意味で、メディア研究にとっても重要な成果となる。本研究は、そのような目的をもって遂行された。
