本研究は、日本と地理的にもっとも近い韓国及び朝鮮半島と国境を接している中国東北地方におけるダニ媒介性動物原虫感染症の流行の実態を明らかにし、日本の輸入検疫体制強化と韓国及び中国の原虫病診断技術の向上と普及に資することを目的として実施した。得られた主な成果として、(1)新規血清・遺伝子診断法の確立、(2)新規治療・予防法の開発、(3)韓国・中国の一部地域における牛・馬・犬などのバベシア原虫感染症の流行実態の解明、(4)韓国・中国の動物検疫関係機関への技術移転などが挙げられる。
