旧ソ連核実験場周辺住民の長期低線量率・低線量放射線被曝の健康・リスク評価を行うための基礎研究として、被曝を受けた周辺集落住民の出来るだけ正確な被曝線量を評価することを目的とした。この目的達成のために、最も大きな被害を被ったドロン村を中心に、南の集落、サルジャール村、カラウル村できめ細かな土壌サンプリングを行い、放射性雲の通過したセンター軸の位置,幅、さらに降下量を明らかにし,被曝線量を推定した。
