慢性疾患を持ちながら生活する小児とその家族を対象に、チームアプローチによる支援の方法を示すことを目的に、1型糖尿病を持つ小児とその家族への支援に注目した。特に、小児糖尿病サマーキャンプにおける支援について具体的な方法論や指導モデルを示した。また、全国40数か所で開催されている糖尿病サマーキャンプの有用性と効果について予備調査と全国調査を実施した。その結果、キャンプの有用性が示され、キャンプ参加者に疾患管理や生活の積極性に関する自己効力感が優位に高いことを確認した。
