IMPACT OF COMBINATORY BLOCKADE OF VASODILATORS IN FOREARM EXERCISE

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The primary aim of this protocol is to test the impact of individual and combined blockade of adenosine (with the adenosine-receptor inhibitor aminophylline) and nitric oxide (with the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor NG-monomethyl-L-arginine, L-NMMA) on rapid vasodilation during and after forearm exercise. Because adenosine and nitric oxide are thought to be important physiologic mediators of vasodilation, we hypothesize that combined blockade of these vasodilators would act to delay and/or attenuate anticipated vasodilatory responses after exercise.
