This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
The Microsequence Array Core Facility is located in the Baxter II Biomedical Research Building, one block from the Brown Cancer Center. This facility contains an Affymetrix Genechip instrument which is available to all MT-COBRE members. Plans are underway for the development of a tissue array component of this facility as well. The Microsequence Array Facility is under the direction of Dr. Wolfgang Zacharias and has been fully operational for the past four and one-half years. It contains a full-time staff member, Sabine Waigel, who provides technical assistance in sample processing, hybridization, and data analysis. The Microsequence Array Core has a close relationship with the Laser Capture Microscopy facility in the Department of Pathology and an established Tumor Bank in the J.G. Brown Cancer Center. This allows the preparation of samples with known pathologic characteristics and appropriate control specimens. Dr. Zacharias remains available for assistance with experimental design and data analysis.
The new high-resolution Affymetrix Scanner 3000 upgrade, purchased and installed in March 2005, now allows all COBRE investigators to use the newest generation of high-density whole genome v2.0 arrays for human or mouse. We continue to organize and hold software/data analysis workshops on campus to train microarray technology users.
