This project aims at preparing the first complete critical edition of the original Arabic text of the 'Commentary on Hippocrates' Aphorisms' by Moses Maimonides (1138-1204) and its first complete translation into English based on the original Arabic text. All hitherto existing editions of this central Maimonidean medical work are uncritical and flawed as they were based on an incomplete Arabic manuscript or a medieval Hebrew translation, but never on the complete original Arabic text. Furthermore, the aim of a subsequent project would be the first critical edition of all the existing medieval Hebrew translations of the text, accompanied by a glossary to compare the medical terms used in the Hebrew translations with their original Arabic counterparts.
