Sheridan College's Screen Industries Research and Training Center (SIRT) will work with Toronto-based partner company Spin VFX to prototype innovative tools for use with virtual production. Virtual production involves the use of real-time computer graphics to provide instantaneous digital replacements for objects or characters during production. This provides production staff with an advance view of the content being created in a form much closer to the final version, allowing for informed decisions to be made and quickly iterated upon. This project aims to identify a state-of-the-art virtual production setup including screens displaying real-time graphics, then extend this setup with new tools enabling quick and accurate calibration of camera and screen configurations. These tools will help Spin VFX to continue providing industry leading services to the global film and TV industry. Consequently, this will help strengthen the Canadian film and TV industry, bringing in additional clients eager to leverage these beneficial new technologies and supporting the employment of Canadian artists and technicians.
