岡は、最近「無限遠に一つのプレイスを有する平面曲線のモジュライ」の研究を完成させた。さらに、外国旅費を利用して7月11日から21日まで、バ-セル大学でA'Campo教授と共同研究および助言を受け、さらにOberwolfachで特異点の国際会議に出席・講演を行った。今井は、3次元ユークリッド空間内の結び目のエネルギー汎関数の研究を一般の3次元実空間形へ拡張し、その論文を作成した。島根大の前田は、複数射影空間内の円に関する研究を行い、以前よりずっと深い結果をあたえ、この研究の論文のプレプリントを書き上げた。研究代表者は、本研究費を利用して、1997年2月12日から14日まで山梨県甲府市で、Harmonic Maps,Submanifold Geometry and Moduli Spacesというテーマを持って研究会を組織した。内容は、曲面の微分幾何とソリトン方程式、等径部分多様体論、6次元球面の3次元全実部分多様体、タイヒミュラー空間上のエネルギー関数の第二変分公式とコンパクトリーマン面からの高次元トーラスへの調和写像、トーラスから3次元球面への調和写像のモジュライの理論、ユニトン解のモジュライの理論、全曲率有限の極小曲面の空間のコンパクト性、平均曲率一定の曲面の研究への最大値の原理の応用、コンパクトリーマン面からの調和写像の変形のある構成の結果、対称空間g-符号の研究など大変興味ある研究発表・解説・議論など活発になされた。この研究の報告集を作成する予定である。
