In addition to the product characteristics of price and quality, logistic performance has become a highly relevant customer requirement for producing companies and a very important purchasing criterion. Production planning and control (PPC) has a very large influence on the logistic performance achieved and the logistics costs incurred. In the literature, various PPC concepts can be found, which describe the PPC tasks and put them into a process-related context. Examples are Aachen PPC-Model or the Hanoverian Supply Chain Model. These concepts are generic and generally valid. However, they do not specify how the PPC tasks should be carried out. Numerous procedures are available for the concrete fulfilment of the PPC tasks. These differ greatly in the effort required, in the result and in their effect on logistic and other objectives. Today, there is no continuous and consistent collection and description of these PPC procedures. For the selection of procedures for fulfilling the PPC tasks several approaches can be found in the literature. These use different criteria for selection, but are quite general and do not yet provide a comprehensive solution for PPC configuration. Thus, the PPC design remains a great challenge for companies, especially because the specific effect of the different PPC procedures and combinations is not transparent. Only for individual tasks highly focused studies on the impact of PPC procedures on logistic objectives do exist. The proposed research project has two main objectives. On the one hand, the procedures for fulfilling the PPC tasks should be collected, structured and described in a uniform form and language. On the other hand, the direct or indirect impact of the PPC procedures on logistic objectives should be examined qualitatively. The results of the research project will be integrated into the framework Hanoverian Supply Chain Model and thus made accessible to science and industry. Thus, for the first time, a comprehensive and systematic linking of procedures for fulfilling PPC tasks and their specific effect on logistical target figures is available across the entire PPC and the entire company's internal supply chain. This systematizes knowledge and creates new knowledge. The basic formulation of cause-effect-relationships and the use of suitable structures and visualizations creates transparency and increases understanding of the complex cause-effect-relationships in PPC. Companies are thus supported to examine their PPC with regard to weak points and target conformity as well as to estimate the effect of improvement measures in the PPC.
