ABSTRACT
Support is requested for a Keystone Symposia conference entitled Resolution of Inflammation, organized by
Drs. Carla Rothlin, Kodi Ravichandran, Ashley Seifert and Gabrielle Fredman. The conference will be held in
Keystone, Colorado from June 12-16, 2022.
Resolution of inflammation involves extinguishing the inflammatory response once the infectious or damaging
agent has been eliminated and triggering the repair of damaged tissues to regain physiological function. This
active process is essential to health and may be aberrant in a number of diseases associated with chronic or
exaggerated inflammation. The role of innate immune cells, and their production of pro-resolution chemical
mediators, has been recognized for some time. A more recent discovery reports the critical role of
coordination between innate immune cells and stromal cells to “re-build” injured tissues and organs. This
conference will bring together an interdisciplinary group of scientists studying interactions between immune
and stromal cells, and neuroimmune interactions to better understand the resolution of inflammation, and
subsequent repair and regeneration. The program will explore the function of myeloid cells and fibroblasts, as
well as contrasting roles of neuroimmune interactions in resolution of inflammation and pathological
inflammation. This conference will also examine our current understanding of diseases that impact the
resolution of inflammation, with the goal of conceptualizing and developing pro-resolution therapies.
Moreover, this conference will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas that will strengthen the community of
scientists interested in the fundamental mechanisms of resolution of inflammation and their translation into
pharmacological approaches for the treatment of diseases driven by either lack of or aberrant resolution and
repair responses. Finally, this meeting will be held jointly with another Keystone Symposia conference on
Tissue Fibrosis and Repair: Mechanisms, Human Disease and Therapies.
